Marvel Unveils New ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Costume

New ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Costume

Marvel just dropped this press release, featuring a look at a redesigned costume for ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, which is going to be used after the current Death of Spider-Man storyline running through the title.  But the most intriguing part of the release is the quote that Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso gave the New York Post regarding the costume:

“That’s not Peter Parker,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso told The Post. “There’s going to be someone new wearing the costume.”

As far as redesigns for the Spider-Man costume go…well, I dig this one. They’ve omitted the blue in place of black, and the usage of red highlights gives it a really nice stylized look. Of course, you can’t look at this without pointing out how much it looks like the Alex Ross costume he designed for the first Spider-Man movie (one that was ultimately passed on in favor of the traditional costume (and that I just realized seems to have heavily influenced Ross’ Captain America redesign…or maybe he just likes pointy chest designs?)).

Just for shits and giggles, the official press release follows. Light up the comments and let us know what you think about the new Spider-Man costume, or if you know of any other Alex Ross redesigns with pointy chest bits.

Marvel has announced that after the shocking events of Death of Spider-Man, the sold out storyline currently running through Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and Ultimate Comics Avengers Vs Ultimates, there will be a new Spider-Man and a new character under the mask. Something’s happened to Peter Parker and here comes an all-new Spider-Man…in an all-new costume!

“We called this story Death of Spider-Man for a reason,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor In Chief. “This is a huge story that’ll have fans around the world talking for a long time as we set the stage for the debut of our new Spider-Man.”

The Ultimate Universe is irrevocably changed with the conclusion to Death of Spider-Man in June’s polybagged Ultimate Spider-Man #160, but right now you can get in on the red-hot story that leads to the birth of an all-new Spider-Man, including new printings of the sold out issues: And to make sure you don’t miss a single chapter, pick up all the acclaimed issues below:

‘MMPR: Pink’ might be your new obsession

I've somehow managed to completely ignore Boom's on-going Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series due to a variety of factors. That's a weird mentality if you listened to the podcast or follow me on Twitter, because it's pretty obvious I'm a Power Rangers fanboy from back in the day. I've always had a weird relationship with the property, as it just wasn't considered "cool" when I was a kid for a very long time. Fortunately, Boom's gotten a handful of writers on hand who seem to share my adoration of the franchise, and I was curious as hell as to what they'd do with a Pink Ranger solo title.
