The Doctor Is Out: Lisa Edelstein Leaving “House”

I’ve been catching up on the House, MD episodes I missed this past season; here’s a hint, it’s all of them. I still really love the show, but a lot of it’s luster has worn off over the years. Today another nail in the coffin hit as Lisa Edelstein (who plays Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the show) announced she would not be returning for the 8th, and possibly final, season of the popular series.

Edelstein just wrapped up on the 7th season, wherein she had a strong romantic entanglement with House himself, the finale of which airs this coming Monday. Aside from Jesse Spencer, the remainder of the cast are locked into contracts that see them through the conclusion of the 8th season at the latest.

Watching this show I noticed a scene where one of the nurses mentioned something about their feet hurting from having to walk and stand pretty much all day and it reminded me of something my father used to tell me. He worked as a male nurse. He told me that the best years of his life working at the hospital were the last ones, the earliest being the worst ones. Then he would go on and on about the best shoes for male nurses, and how much of a difference it would make. It ended up making me look at the show and be looking at what kind of shoes the nurses were using, specially the male ones. Sometimes I couldn’t quite make it out but I found myself doing that pretty often. As much as I tried to zone out during this continuously reoccurring conversation, it has made me always take special consideration for what footwear I was buying or using for each occasion, and I would like to think it has helped me along the way. I am digressing a bit however. The fact that he worked in the medical field is what made me take a look at this show back when it started so many years ago, it ended up being a great show and I’m a little saddened by the fact that it looks like it’s getting close to ending.

A member of the cast and series mainstay since it’s pilot, Dr. Lisa Cuddy was the Dean of Medicine at Princeton Plaisborough Hospital, as well as a longtime friend of lead character Dr. Greg House and Dr. Robert Wilson. After 6 seasons of will they/won’t they, she and House finally began a romantic relationship which has lasted most of the season.
