WWE Adds Sting To Alumni Section

So, here’s something we didn’t see coming. WWE has added former WCW and TNA champion Sting to their alumni page. This marks the first time a wrestler has been added to a WWE Alumni page despite never having performed in the company before.

Sting, birth name Steve Borden, was a staple of WCW known for his energetic style. However, when the company was purchased by WWE, Sting refused to come along citing a distaste for the company’s overly violent and vulgar story lines. Despite fan cries for a run in the WWE, Sting remains the only major WCW player to not come to the WWE, though he has teased in numerous interviews that he almost signed at various points over the years.

Currently, Sting is signed to TNA wrestling, where he recently relinquished his role as General Manager. As of March 29, 2012, Borden had signed another contract extension with the company.

It’s possible this could be a show of good faith by the WWE. They’re well aware that the fans want to see Sting have a run, and have clamored for a feud with The Undertaker ever since Sting’s drastic character change in 1996.

It is believed by many fans that Sting’s biggest issue is how little significance he’d have in the WWE as opposed to how he’s one of the top guys in TNA. But with the recent Rock and Lesnar programs, could WWE have shown their willing to let a top level talent come in for a short program in the main event and then disappear into the sunset? Only time will tell.
