REVIEW: "The Flash: Rebirth" #3

The following contains spoilers for “The Flash: Rebirth” #3

The Flash: Rebirth #3

Story: Rearview Mirrors

Writer: Geoff Johns

Artist: Ethan Van Sciver

Colors: Alex Sinclair

Let’s face it, we’ve all seen Superman/Flash races in the past.  So the prospect of another one was pretty unexciting.  Well, you’re in luck: this one’s only about a page and a half.

Its a pretty well over and done with issue.  Barry decides that he’s not meant to be alive and races to die, where he meets the spirits of Johnny Quick and Max Mercury in the Speed Force.  Johnny touches Barry and dies (Yes, they killed a dead man.) and we learn that the Speed Force is actually being manipulated by Professor Zoom, the Reverse Flash.  So, essentially, the book is now beat for beat just like “Green Lantern: Rebirth”, with the main hero returning from the dead only to be possessed by something evil that is being manipulated by his long thought dead arch-nemesis.

Now, don’t get me wrong: the book is still good.  I’ve always been a Flash fan, so I am enjoying Rebirth, but it certainly feels like there is something missing, some piece of polish that should be in place but is gone.  There’s still three issues to go now that the title has been expanded to a 6 issue mini, so maybe we’ll get it soon.

Final Grade: B

A former military brat, Christopher now lives in the Northwest Georgia area, where he aspires to finish his novel one day, and works at a local computer shop. No, he cannot diagnose your computer over the Internet.
