Wednesday Comics #1

Wednesday Comics #1

DC’s been doing the weekly thing for about 3 years now.  “52” was a bit slow in the second act, but ulitmately a damn good series.  “Countdown/Countdown to Final Crisis” was kind of a wreck.  And I dropped “Trinity” after about 5 issues.

They’re giving it another go with “Wednesday Comics“.  I’ve been trying to put words to this review for a while, and I simply can’t.  15 characters by 15 creative teams, in 15 one page stories told in the style of the Sunday funnies.  The teams they have working on this book are simply top notch.  They’ve tapped talents the like of Brian Azzarello, Lee Bermejo, Neil Gaiman, Jimmy Palmiotti, Karl Kerschl and more.  Even Dan Didio is getting in on the action with “Metal Men”.  There’s not a lot to say other than its really, really, really good.  And its only 12 weeks long, meaning DC may have finally learned their lesson about how long a good story lasts.

There’s not a lot I can say about this issue.  Either this review would go on for an eternity as I ramble about each story, so I’m gonna say this instead.  Buy this book now.  Its that good, and you owe it to yourself.  If you want to know more about a specific story, leave  a comment about what you want to know, and I’ll reply as quickly as I can.  Hopefully, before next week, I’ll think of some way I can do this that won’t take you all day to read.

Wednesday Comics” #1 gets an A for being just damn awesome.  And for those who are wondering, the two I’m most excited about are easily the suspenseful “Batman” tale by Azzarello and Risso, and the classic feeling “Flash” story by Kerschl and Fletcher.

A former military brat, Christopher currently studies Journalism at a local college, and aspires to one day finally finishing editing that novel he wrote two years ago. He is currently finishing and seeking an artist for his first comic project, SAVIOUR.
