It’s that time of year once again. The Summer is winding down and the forthcoming football season isn’t far away. Of course, this also brings another addition to the Madden series. Is this game just another “roster update†or is there something fresh this year?
I always somehow get caught up in the Madden hype every year. While I haven’t actually bought a Madden game since 2007, I have at least played them all. However, I always find myself in deep reflection each year on whether or not I should give in and buy the latest installment. This year I gave in to the hype and actually purchased the game.
For quite some time EA has been telling the gaming community that Madden 10 would be a fresh installment to the tired series. Better graphics, new animations, and everything that makes a football game what it is had been promised to gamers. Did EA deliver on their promise? For the most part, I suppose so. All of those previous three elements I mentioned are in the game, however, other than that nothing that’s really new is offered.
The graphics are nothing short of beautiful. I think most would agree that everything is extremely clear and detailed. Along with this you have the new “pro-tak mationâ€. With this, you can have up to 9 guys tackling you at once. You’re also treated to an animation each time this occurs. I thought this worked really well in making the experience feel a bit more realistic. I never understood why this wasn’t added in a lot sooner, but at least it’s finally here.
The only fault I have with the game is the fact that, as far as actual gameplay is concerned, this game is still just another “roster updateâ€. I can’t see really anything that’s different besides a few new animations and the graphics. The controls and the actual “football paying†of the game is all the same for the most part. Does that mean the game is bad? Of course not. It’s just a bit of a stretch to say that this game gives the series a breath of fresh air.
If you’re a Madden junkie, chances are you’ve already bought the game and you’re loving. If you’re on the fence about the game, I would suggest picking it up only if you don’t own any of the previous games. If you do, save your $60 bucks and just stick with the game you have. Like I said, Madden ‘10 isn’t a bad game, but it is more of the same.
