Shelf Porn: Batgirl (again) and Black Widow

earlier this month I posted up a review and a pic of my Batgirl: cover girls of the DCU statue and as you are now all aware I have a slight crush on the red headed crime fighter . Well I have now built on that with my latest purchase which was a rather indulgent Christmas gift to myself. I’m talking about the Batgirl Bishoujo statue by Kotobukiya

Now this isn’t my first statue in the Bishoujo line because whilst waiting (rather impatiently if I’m honest) for my new Batgirl to show I picked up the Black Widow statue from a comic book store in Leeds (I shan’t name the store but they have several outlets in various towns and cities across England) Again this is rather indulgent of me and I should have probably used the money to pay bills and or feed a homeless person but I’m selfish and want some cool stuff!

Shelf Porn: Barbara “Batgirl” Gordon

Today I received my Christmas present from a friend of mine I can’t lie it’s pretty much the best gift anyone has ever gotten me (seen as I have a huge thing for Babs) It’s the Adam Hughes designed Batgirl statue from the Cover Girls of the DC Universe range. For those of you who are interested these are her mesurements and stats Barbara is…

“Hand-painted, cold-cast in porcelain and measuring approximately 8.875″ high x 8.375″ wide x 4″ deep, this statue includes a 4-color Certificate of Authenticity and is packaged in a 4-color box”

Personally I think shes gorgeous! I have always loved the design of Batgirl’s suit, the simple black and yellow colour scheme looks great and remains timeless. My only real criticism is that I kind of miss the short cape she wore during the 90′s animated series (But that is really just my twisted perversions towards an imaginary character) The paint job looks really good, I dig that the suit is matt black while the yellow has a glossier finish to it. I have noticed upon closer inspection you can see a join along the top of her left hand. You could simply pass this off as a seam in her glove but deep down you will know that its not and the fanatical collector among us may dismiss this item because of it. The packaging looks terrific as well covered all the way round with clear images of the contents including a reprint of the concept sketch. This statue is limited to 6,000 units and just incase you were wondering mine is number 0,177 of 6,000 so there is still a long way to go if I’m to have an army of Barbaras covering ever surface in my room!

As I’ve said this was bought for me as a gift and I adore it completely, my only problem with this (I have mentioned this to my friend already… several times… he may not be speaking to me now because of it) is that she is not life sized… and real!

Close up shot: notice the two finishes used

Such a great expression kind of says

“It’s broken, what do I do?”

Apologies for the poor quality of this pic it was taken in my room which doesn’t have the best light by my iPhone which doesn’t have the best capabilities when it comes to poor light
