All-New Wolverine #1 – A clone’s destiny

When Marvel announced they were killing Wolverine last year, I was skeptical. After all, it's not only comics, it's an X-Man. Hell, it's THE X-Man. Even in death, Wolverine's an insanely popular character, so kudos to Marvel for sticking to their guns and letting Logan stay six feet under. But it's not the Marvel U without a Wolverine, and while they're cheating a bit by having a universe displaced Old Man Logan show up in Extraordinary X-Men, it's been decided that the mantle would go down to Wolverine's clone Laura Kinney, formerly known as X-23.

‘Peep Show’ begins it’s final run tomorrow

I came to the party a little late for ‘Peep Show’, the cult favorite British comedy about all-around terrible human beings Mark and Jez. The show’s gimmick (the camera is perpetually shooting from someone’s POV) and dry, cutting humor pulled me in, but it’s also a genuinely well-written show with a lot of endearing moments (though they’re almost immediately undercut …

Last Sons of America #1 – A better life for your children

Boom seems to be the place to go for dark, gripping stories about having a displaced life. The latest one, Last Sons of America, has potential to be the darkest yet. Written by newcomer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and illustrated by Matthew Dow Smith (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Witches, Doctor Who), Last Sons of America is an America which suffers from …

‘Warcraft’ trailer has one glaring problem

I LOVED the Warcraft games growing up, and while I never really got in to World of Warcraft I’ve always hoped for a Warcraft IV proper. We’re getting a Warcraft movie instead, which seems to focus on the Orcs and their inability to evolve beyond warmongers as the humans fear them. There’s a possibility for a real story here. Look …

An indictment of James Bond

I finally got around to seeing Skyfall today. It only took me three years. Look, I'm notoriously bad about not watching movies when they're new. I've managed to mostly keep up with comic book movies as they come out, but a large part of that is because it's impossible to avoid spoilers for me. I managed to avoid the ending of Skyfall for THREE YEARS, and yes, I was VERY surprised to see Judi Dench die. Dench was the only thing about the reboot I didn't question how it related to the originals; we were told Casino Royale was a hard reboot, and I bought it. Judi Dench playing M wasn't THAT big a deal. I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role.

The Vision #1 – Do synthezoids dream of families?

The last time we saw The Vision proper was in the Avengers special a month or two back where we learned he had wiped his emotions to keep his systems functioning properly. As a result, it's very jarring to see The Vision now residing in Arlington as the Avengers liason to the government. But that feeling may be intentional.

Klaus #1 – Morrison’s All-Star Santa Might Surprise You

We've seen Santa Claus origin stories before, but probably not one quite like Grant Morrison's Klaus. Morrison, who you obviously know best from his runs on Animal Man,  All-Star Superman or his original work like The Invisibles, calls this his "All-Star Santa Claus", and rightfully so. It's a decidedly more grounded and yet stranger origin than we've ever seen before.

The first PREACHER trailer is great, pretty misleading.

During last night’s episode of The Walking Dead (a show which I keep meaning to catch up on, but haven’t watched since the middle of season 3), we finally got our first look at AMC’s next comic book adaptation, Preacher, which is supposedly based on the revered Grant Morrison book of the same name. Morrison’s Preacher is about Jesse Custer, a small town reverend who …

Preview: Americatown #3

You probably haven’t been reading Americatown from Archaia, and that’s a shame. Penned by screenwriters Bradford Winters (Oz, The Americans) and Larry Cohen (Borgia) with art by newcomer Daniel Irizarri, the fantasy fueled, maybe alternate reality of Americans as illegal immigrants is as gripping as it is thought provoking. There’s still time to catch up on this sure to be sleeper …
