New Captain America Concept Art!

Remember that Captain America concept art a few months back?  There’s a new piece now, and it’s absolutely stunning.

Hopefully the new poster shines some hope for the upcoming movie, which stars Chris Evans as Cap, Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull, and is directed by Joe Johnston.

Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing The Riddler?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt...The Riddler?

I can’t begin to stress this enough: this is not verified.  But right now, all signs point to Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who just kicked ass in Batman 3 director Christopher Nolan’s Inception) being at the top of a fairly short list to play The Riddler.

It makes sense.  Nolan tends to re-use actors from film to film, and Gordon-Levitt did a very good job in Inception.

Fun fact, though: Spider-Man alum James Franco was the original choice to play Gordon-Levitt’s role in Inception.  Makes one wonder if Franco would be in the same place if he hadn’t passed.

Behind DC’s New BRIGHTEST DAY Teaser

Way back when they did 52, DC started doing these one off teaser posters.  It worked really well for 52, not so hot for Countdown (mainly because of editorial mandates changing the story after it was published), and Battle For The Cowls was a little muddled.  But, much like Rip Hunter’s infamous chalkboards, the clues within the teasers are always fun to decipher.

Yesterday, DC released a new one for Brightest Day.  Or rather, for the end of Brightest Day.  We’ve taken a little time to pick it apart, so here we go!

Alright, here we go!

Construction Crane Constructs in the top left, made by Green Lantern energy.  Current GL Honor Guard member John Stewart worked as an architect when he lost his power ring, and his constructs are known to take on the form of architecture.  The crane appears to be powered by Guy Gardner and Ganthet of the Green Lantern Corps, and Atrocitus of the Red Lanterns, and is lifting a green energy coffin.  Could be hinting at the impending death of John Stewart.

Hawkworld portal, releasing harpies and containing Hawkman and Hawkwoman.  The portal itself appears to be made out of Star Sapphire energy…which makes sense, considering the backstory of the Hawks.

Hawk and Dove holding the body of Jade, recently resurrected by the White Lantern.

The Firestorms Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rousche.  There’s a body underneath the rubble which appears to be the Black Lantern Firestorm, but are Ronny and Jason taking rocks off of it, or putting them on?

A Qward weaponeer’s shield lays discarded on the ground.  In upcoming solicits for Green Lantern, such a shield is shown being powered by the White Lantern.

Mera and what appears to be the corpse of Black Lantern Aquaman.  His rips are poking through his shirt, and he appears to be, at the very least, severely dehydrated.

Hal Jordan in the White Lantern battery, which is broken.  Hal’s bleeding from his ring arm.

The new Aqualad, who appears to be able to make constructs out of water.  Note the looming red eyes of Black Manta in the background; currently, the fan favorite theory is that the new Aqualad will be revealed as the son of Black Manta.

Deadman, in full costume and still wearing a White Lantern ring.  He’s carving the word RISE into a tombstone.  Maybe he’ll find some way to kill the White Lantern?

Magog’s staff, broken.  Can’t say I’m too terribly hurt by the hint of Magog’s death.

Captain Boomerang’s new energy boomerangs, laying in a pile.  They’re next to a bloody Welcome To Star City sign.

Martian Manhunter burning something in front of a tree with a White Lantern symbol on it.  J’onn is solicited to appear in upcoming issues of Green Arrow, potentially as an antagonist.

The Anti-Monitor is also looming in the clouds.

Did we miss anything?  Let us know in the comments.

“Memento” Review

As I said before, there’s not much new I can add to this. Memento is a movie that I think we are all universally introduced to once we hit college the first time, and for many of us it’s our first true “intelligent” movie. There are definitely smarter movies out there, but none seem quite as entertaining or as enthralling as this. It’s a movie that you should have seen by now, or should be on your way to see it already. I literally cannot recommend this movie highly enough.

There’s literally a twist in every scene of this movie. The method of telling the story backwards puts you in a strange place that you aren’t sure how you got there, and then proceeds to keep twisting and turning. Memento‘s only true flaw is that by nature, the story is never quite as good after the first viewing, once you know what’s going on. But that’s when you start picking it apart. That’s when you notice the license plate was different, or someone is wearing a different shirt, or that Leonard just passed a familiar building. What Memento sacrifices in emotional impact in multiple viewings, it makes up for in it’s picture hunt-esque film making that scatters all the clues you need to draw one out of a million of different conclusions about what’s really going on in this film. Much like I mentioned in my Inception review, the joy of Memento is that it makes you earn your surprises.

What can be said about Memento that hasn’t been said a dozen times before? Nolan’s ground breaking film (and arguably the one that put him on the map as a big time director) is a mind bending thriller that becomes an enigma with every viewing. In fact, I think Memento is probably my favorite Nolan film and, yes, that does include his work on the Batman franchise.

Starring: Guy Pearce, Carrie Anne-Moss, Joe Pantoliano, Jorja Fox, Stephen Tobolowsky

Director: Christopher Nolan

Run Time: 113 Minutes

Rating: ★★★★★

To commemorate the release of Inception, we’re making this CHRISTOPHER NOLAN WEEK on The HomeWorld. Stop by every day as we take a look back at Nolan’s previous works, all week long.

Well This Is Better

New THOR production stills have hit the Internet.  This time around, a look at the halls of Asgard.  Also, to the far left, we finally have confirmation that Loki’s traditional pointed horn helmet appears in the film too.  Hopefully, this also means that Thor’s legendary winged helm will show up too.

Much better, given last week’s series of disappointing costume reveals.
