The Pull List! Week of April 1st, 2009

The Flash returns, and the Messiah War begins!! Time for this week’s Pull List!!!

All I can really say is oy.  Yeah, The Homeworld has been pretty dead this week, but we have an excuse.  Derk is busy with school, which pretty much eats up all his free time.  As for me, I’ve been pretty much dieing from allergies.  So, sorry there’s been no reviews of last week’s comics up.  Who knows, maybe I’ll get the chance to take care of them later on.  But here’s this week’s pull list (complete with cover art!), and look forward to some reviews.  Its a fairly big week all around, and I for one am absolutely thrilled about Flash: Rebirth.  But I’ll discuss that later on in the week, so on with the show…

flash_rebirthThe Flash: Rebirth #1

Why You Should Read It: The Flash is a long running staple of the DC Universe, and for over 20 years Barry Allen has stood as the symbol of heroism in the DC Universe. Is it great that he’s back? I’m not entirely sure, but I’ll share my opinions of that later in the week. Now, Barry is back in the DC Universe, but at what cost? The story starts here!

Official Solicitation: “Through the decades, many heroes have taken the mantle of The Flash, but they all ride the lightning that crackles in the wake of the greatest hero the DC Universe has ever known, the man who sacrificed himself to save the Multiverse: Barry Allen!

Following the events of FINAL CRISIS, Barry has beaten death and returned to a fast-paced world that a man out of time wouldn’t recognize. Or is it a world that is only just now catching up? All the running he’s done before was just a warmup for the high-speed race that he and every other Flash must now run, because even though one speedster might have beaten death, another has just turned up dead! From Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver, the visionaries responsible for the blockbuster GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH and THE SINESTRO CORPS WAR, comes the start of an explosive and jaw-dropping epic that will reintroduce to the modern age the hero who single-handedly birthed the Silver Age of comics! DC history will be made, and the Flash legacy will be redefined!”

Justice Society of America #25Justice Society of America #25

Why You Should Read It: The JsofA started out with great promise after One Year Later, but has since faltered and crashed to a near halt. Its a shame to see this title fall from grace, but with a team big enough to occupy 2 (if not 3) team books and the overly long “One Nation Under GOG”, its sadly not lived up to its potential. Currently, the team is struggling to stay afloat, as they contend with infighting, disparaging opinions after Gog, and a team that has fallen apart.  With the current “Black Adam and Isis” storyline draw to a close, can the once might Society find its feet once again?

Official Solicitation: “The “Black Adam and Isis” epic concludes here! With Billy Batson banished from the Rock of Eternity, the Justice Society calls upon an old friend to help in the battle against the Black Marvel family and stop Black Adam and Isis once and for all!”

Teen Titans #69Teen Titans #69

Why You Should Read It:  With Robin gone, the Teen Titans have suddenly become brighter, happier heroes. Now in the aftermath of the Terror Titans mini-series, a new team of Teen Titans emerges, but can even they get it together? Find out the final fate of those affected by the Darkseid Club, and the final roster of the new team here!

Official Solicitation: “Get ready for the debut of the new Teen Titans line-up! What surprising heroes show up as part of the team? Who made the cut and who got sent home? And where do they go from here? This special issue sets the stage for the “Deathtrap” crossover with TITANS, which kicks off in the upcoming TEEN TITANS ANNUAL!”

Amazing Spider-Man #590Amazing Spider-Man #590

Why You Should Read It: The initial story of Brand New Day has come to a close with the election day results and the reveal of both Menace and the Spider Tracer Killer, but now there’s more to ask. What will become of Vin? Of Menace? Is Harry Osborn becoming The Green Goblin again, and why did he save Spider-Man from the police? And what does the new savior of humanity, Norman Osborn, have to say about all this? As one chapter of Spider-Man’s new life closes, a new one begins here, with a blast from the past Fantastic Four story that’s set to effect the entire Marvel Universe!

Official Solicitation: “An adventure from Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four’s past is about to have a profound effect on their future…That’s if Spidey and the Torch can stop fighting long enough to notice! What’s the cosmic-level rift that’s dividing two of the Marvel U.’s best friends? Plus, a dark turn for Harry Osborn. A new role for Mr. Negative. And the start of a story that’s going to effect almost every title at Marvel Comics! We kid you not!!!”

Cable #13Cable #13

Why You Should Read It: The Messiah War is in full effect! Stryfe has been revealed as a major player, and Deadpool has reappeared in the future somehow alive and considerably even more insane. Who lives? Who dies? What role does The Messiah Child, Hope Summers, play in the future of mutant kind? The most important X-Men crossover since Messiah CompleX begins here!

Official Solicitation: “The sequel to 2007’s MESSIAH COMPLEX continues here! Cyclops has complete faith that his son, Cable, will do everything he can to protect the so-called mutant messiah — who he believes will save mutantkind. But he also knows what havoc former X-Man Lucas Bishop has wreaked in the nightmarish future. So now he’s sent his black ops team, the X-Force, on a risky, time-traveling mission to save Cable and the child, completely unaware that there’s something else waiting for them in the future. Something not even Bishop was counting on…”

Captain America Comics 70th Anniversary SpecialCaptain America Comics 70th Anniversary Special

Why You Should Read It: Seventy years of Captain America, and the many men to wear his colors. Celebrate one of Marvel’s greatest, most memorable heroes of all time with a look at the most recognizable of them, Steve Rogers. The anniversary specials are just now kicking off, and Marvel is preparing to make it special one for the legendary Sentinel of Liberty.

Official Solicitation: “Leading off a series of celebratory specials commemorating Marvel’s 70th Anniversary, James (STARMAN, SUPERMAN) Robinson and Marcos (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) Martin bring you an untold story of the living legend. In the days before he becomes Captain America, a scrawny kid from Brooklyn named Steve Rogers shows the world that you don’t need a super-soldier serum to be a hero. Plus a classic Captain America tale from the Golden Age by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby.”
