What Happened to Every New Game Announced at the Game Awards 2023?

WORLD PREMIERE

If you’re looking to forget about the current The Game Awards controversy, here’s a look at every 2023 game reveal and what’s happening with them.

There’s a ton of controversy surrounding The Game Awards right now, as the house that Geoff Keighly built is getting a ton of flack for its nominees.

The fact of the matter, though, is that the “award show” portion of The Game Awards is almost always controversial in some regard, be it nominees that don’t make sense (“Elden Ring” DLC for game of the year?) or the event’s increased pivot from focusing on awards to filling the night with reveal trailers.

The Game Awards 2023 announced a ton of games, but as you’ve probably noticed, they’re not all in your hands right now. While we get ready for The Game Awards 2024, here’s a look at everything announced at the 2023 event and its current status.

The Games We Know Something About

Video games take longer than ever to develop as the scopes and budgets continue to expand. These games have received some form of update, be it from an official or leaked source, since their Game Awards 2023 reveal.

Sega Power Surge: Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, & Streets of Rage: Revolution

No release date has been announced for any of these games.

Sega called “Crazy Taxi” a “large-scale, open-world, online game” in a series of job advertisements. A release date has not been confirmed, though leaker Midori claimed in a deleted tweet that it was targeting a 2027 release date. Gameplay footage was leaked to the internet in September 2024.

Sega has announced a planned “Golden Axe” animated series. Leaker Midori indicated in a deleted tweet that the game had been delayed at some point.

Leaker Midori claimed in a deleted tweet that “Jet Set Radio” would be released in 2026 as a Games as a Service title.

Early “Shinobi” gameplay leaked to the Internet in September 2024. Sega has also announced a “Shinobi” film adaptation to be written by Ken Kobayashi and directed by Sam Hargrave.

Leaker Midori claims “Streets of Rage: Revolution” will be developed by Komi Games and hinted the game would be released later this year, though a release date has yet to be announced.

Exodus

No release date has been announced, but the devs are regularly posting making-of and behind-the-scenes videos on its official website. The site also offers a free “Founder” pack for those who sign up for a newsletter before December 8, 2024, that includes a custom space suit and patch, as well as a cloak for referring additional friends.

Kemuri

Kemuri has yet to be released and does not have a release date. It does, however, have an official merch store.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

Will release on February 18, 2025. The game did recently lift its review embargo, and it appears to have been met with praise from critics.
