Hello, and welcome to this rundown of new comics releasing on November 6th. I’m still in the process of soft-relaunching Homeworld, which is becoming something of a process in and of itself.
To be clear, this site remains squarely in the hobby area of my workload by virtue of necessity. If you’re not keeping up, I’m working various full-time editing gigs, and so I’m working on this between work, streams, and life in general.
But hot damn, does it feel good to just speak off the cuff and casually about comic books again. I’ve been slowly catching up and working on a few bigger projects (which will be formally announced soon), but I do want to revive my old Pull List format.
The Pull List is both my way of letting you know what I’m excited about and keeping track of what’s coming out in the coming weeks. This will be a freeform little blog piece with some commentary, and it’ll wrap up with a big bullet point at the very end of everything releasing this week.
With all that in mind, here are my picks for the best new comics releasing the week of November 6th. Want to see more about these comics? Let me know in the comments.
Absolute Superman #1
Honestly, the Absolute line has been the biggest surprise to come out of DC this year for me. Both Batman and Wonder Woman surprised me in a big way and gave me a lot of hope that this line would be more than just a rip-off of the Ultimate line.
But this will be the first true hurdle. A ton of great new, weird Absolute books were announced at NYCC, but if Absolute Superman doesn’t stick the landing, the line may be dead on arrival. Fortunately, it looks great from previews, and Jason Aaron has proven to be one of the most interesting writers of the modern day. Fingers crossed DC pulls off an absolute hat trick.
SUPERSTARS JASON AARON AND RAFA SANDOVAL UNLEASH A SHOCKING NEW TAKE ON THE LAST SON OF KRYPTON! Without the fortress… without the family… without a home… what’s left is the Absolute Man of Steel!

Batman #154
Chip Zdarsky’s Batman continues to surprise and delight me. Typically, when I hear, “Batman’s origin will never be the same again!” I cringe a little bit inside.
But this story, which will mark the end of Zdarsky’s three-year run with The Dark Knight, was a pleasant little surprise. We saw a lot more of Bruce than usual and focused on the impact his outings as Batman are taking on his life and Wayne Enterprises. We also got the tease of a mysterious new aspect of Bruce’s life: a forgotten brother. Is it the return of Lincoln March or a new character altogether?
Oh, we also saw the death of longtime Batman antagonist Christopher Nakano, who was the mayor of Gotham. One way or another, Zdarsky’s final story is shaping up to be a hell of a thriller.
Murder has rocked the heart of Gotham! Batman and Jim Gordon will have to piece together the clues and discover the truth, no matter how dark. Has the Riddler really gone legit? Is the Court of Owls involved? Meanwhile, public sentiment is turning against Wayne Enterprises’ public initiatives, with new hero Commander Star sowing the seeds of discontent.

The Ultimates #6
DC’s Absolute is still getting its feet wet, but Ultimate Comics is in full swing. While most of the flowers are still going to Ultimate Spider-Man, you’d be hard-pressed not to acknowledge just how incredibly solid The Ultimates has been.
Truth be told, when I think of the old Ultimate line, I don’t think of Ultimate Spider-Man or X-Men that much anymore. I think of how terribly the once-flagship Ultimates has aged, and I cringe a little when people ask me about it. The latest incarnation of the concept has been stellar, though, with some truly great updated takes on characters and even some fun new twists. If you’re sleeping on The Ultimates, get in now before the next crossover kicks off.
ULTIMATES ASSEMBLE TO TAKE DOWN THE HULK! The entire roster of THE ULTIMATES unites for the first time in this high octane, climactic conclusion of the first arc! Iron Lad has a plan to defeat the Hulk, the most powerful and imposing member of the Maker’s Council — but has he gotten his team in over their heads?

Batgirl #1
So I was in Ollie’s the other day, and they’ve got No Man’s Land Vol. 2 in trade, but nothing else from that era, and I find myself thinking about how awkward it’s going to be when some kid inevitably gets the middle volume of one of the biggest Batman stories ever and no follow-up.
I also feel a great swell of pity for that kid who will have to sort out Cassandra Cain’s story from those pages, which may or may not feature her and may actually feature Huntress. Cass is one of many characters done dirty by the New 52 and DC’s long road to get back on track. I’m thrilled she’s back and ecstatic she’s getting a new book, though. Now, we can just get Tim Drake back in the spotlight…
Hold on to your seats, clutch your pearls, and rejoice in celebration because Cassandra Cain is taking center stage in her first solo Batgirl series in nearly two decades! When a deadly group of assassins shows up to kill Cassandra, Lady Shiva comes to the rescue, and they must put their complicated past aside and work together as mother and daughter to ensure they make it out alive. Unfortunately, things are never as easy as they seem, and Cass must embark on a jaw-dropping, martial-arts filled adventure in her quest for truth and justice… and revenge?! It’s a Batgirl book like never before, so join us as we dive into the psyche of one of Gotham’s deadliest fighters, while exploring her deep and complex relationship with her mother.
By Tate Brombal, Takeshi Miyazawa, Mike Spicer, & Tom Napolitano
Ranger Academy #12
I think I’m including this one largely out of habit. I have been woefully behind on BOOM!’s Power Rangers for some time now, so I don’t even really know what’s happening in this book.
That being said, this is the final issue, and the next entry in the franchise is the Ultimate Comics-inspired Power Rangers Prime. If you dug Academy, it will be a sad farewell for sure, but there are big things on the horizon.
As Dark Specter takes possession of a key figure, the final battle for the fate of Ranger Academy commences! When Sage’s father falls into peril, Sage can’t help but put herself between him and annihilation, but she can’t save him and all of Ranger Academy alone…
By Maria Ingrande Mora, Jo Mi-Gyeong, & Joana Lafuente
Plastic Man No More! #3
I honestly did not know what to think when this book was first announced. DC’s Black Label has been pretty consistently spectacular, so when I heard they were doing a Plastic Man series, I was pretty optimistic.
This might be one of my favorite Black Label titles so far, though. At times poignant and heartfelt, and other times crude and absurd, it’s a beautiful encapsulation of Plastic Man and all that makes him ridiculous. Plastic Man No More! does a deft job of blending the hilarity and camp of old-school Plas with the body horror and drama of his looming death. This will be one everyone is talking about when it wraps up, so get in now.
IS PLASTIC MAN’S FATE SEALED?! Plastic Man and Woozy suffer a bit of a… setback… when trying to capture one of the Metal Men. Well, setback is putting it mildly, and now there’s really no turning back toward the superheroes they once called allies. As his body grows increasingly more unstable, Plastic Man must turn to a villainous ally in hopes of constructing the weapon that could cure him — no matter how slim the odds of success…
