PULL LIST: Answer the Question & Fight the Sovereign in November 20 New Comics

And the wind began to howl, hey.

For the best new comics of November 20, we’ve got the exciting return of the Question, while Wonder Woman finally focuses on her greatest foe.

I’m not going to lie; I’ve been enjoying having the freedom to just write about things at my own pace again. I’m still finding my legs; I’ve spent the last few years writing about comics with a relatively narrow focus, so I’m having to rethink how I approach some things. But for now, I’m having fun just reading and embracing comics as a fan again and sharing my thoughts and hopes for what the medium will bring next.

I’m hoping to have some more critique and discussion soon. Also, I will look for the previously announced broader project where I’ll be re-reading the original Ultimate Comics, though that may not launch until early 2025. Be sure to let me know what YOU want to see or what YOU think, either in the comments here or in the official Homeworld Discord.

Without any further adieu, here are my picks for the best new comics releasing November 30. You can purchase digital copies via the Amazon links below, or find a local store to support via Comic Shop Locator.

Ultimate Spider-Man #11

by Jonathan Hickman, David Messina, Matt Wilson, Cory Petit

Black Cat is almost certainly here to be a polite and restrained ally in Ultimate Spider-Man #11.

The Ultimate universe is starting to flesh out in a big way. “Ultimates” recently introduced the Immortal Weapons alongside the shock reveal that Ultimate Hulk possessed the Iron Fist in a knock-down, drag-out battle that didn’t include Spider-Man.

Meanwhile, “Ultimate Spider-Man” is cementing itself in its little corner. As Ben and Jonah close in on the Kingpin, the Black Cat is finally making her Ultimate debut.

WHO IS THE ULTIMATE BLACK CAT? Tensions rise between Spider-Man and Green Goblin in the wake of recent events! And a new villain steps up to the plate! What is her connection to the Black Cat on Kingpin’s Sinister Six?

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #33

by Mark Waid, Adrián Gutiérrez, Matt Herms, Steve Wands

Batman and Superman face a horde of Eclipso-zombies in World’s Finest.

Easily, the best part about the landmark “Batman/Superman: World’s Finest” is the way it shows the pair in the context of the larger DCU. The opening stories built heavily on how they interact with the Justice League of the era.

This story, in particular, has been a real gem. Not only have we gotten to see how the two work alongside the League, but we’ve gotten a new take on Eclipso, who has proven to be a real hell of a threat. That story wraps up this month and promises to be a showdown for the ages.

Eclipso’s reign of terror has brought the Justice League to the brink of civil war… but there must be a way to break the spell! The answer lies within the very power source that allows Superman to race faster than a speeding bullet… It’s a battle for Earth’s yellow sun in the dramatic conclusion of “Darkness Falls”!

Action Comics #1076

by Mark Waid, Clayton Henry, Michael Shelfer, Matt Herms

Jor-el’s new backstory is explored as Action Comics continues its weekly run.

I have really been enjoying this daring weekly “Action Comics” event, which has seen Superman in the Phantom Zone alongside the ever-absent Mon-El. The last few issues, in particular, have done some serious heavy lifting with Superman’s lore, changing the origins of the Phantom Zone and the relationship Superman’s father, Jor-El, has with it.

After last week’s cliffhanger, it seems the modern-day Earth is in danger, too. With the sun primed to explode and Mon-El facing a Kryptonian prisoner, things are definitely heating up.

Escape from Krypton! Superman has uncovered the secrets of the Phantom Zone from the clutches of his own father, Jor-El… but now the real challenge begins: returning home in one piece! It’s a daring dash for destiny in the latest installment of the Action Comics weekly!

Plus, Supergirl discovers the crime that started it all!

Wonder Woman #15

by Tom King, Daniel Sampere, Khary Randolph, Tomeu Morey, Clayton Cowles

Wonder Woman is celebrating motherhood by beating the absolute snot out of The Sovereign.

I can’t get over how much I’m enjoying Tom King’s “Wonder Woman” run thus far. The work on this run has been so incredible that I came out of last month’s issue with a huge appreciation for Steve Trevor that I never had before.

We’ve now mostly caught up on the series’ larger mysteries, having learned the origin of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor’s daughter, Trinity. All that remains now is to see how she’ll win her ongoing war against The Sovereign. War’s coming, and Wonder Woman isn’t holding back.

IT’S THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE SOVEREIGN! After the loss of her great love and the birth of her child, Wonder Woman decides this is a job larger than just one hero. Who will assist her in her ultimate quest for justice? Find out as Diana gathers her army!

Batman & Robin: Year One #2

by Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Giovanna Niro

Batman & Robin Year One #2 cover art
The early, strained relationship between Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson is explored in Batman & Robin: Year One #2.

The reimagining of Dick Grayson’s origin continues this month. We’ve seen plenty of interpretations of Bruce and Dick’s early relationship, but the way Waid masterfully blends the notion of Batman‘s teen sidekick with the reality of it throughout the first issue genuinely made this feel like a more grounded affair.

I do love that Robin is kind of a brat in the first issue and that he and Bruce are clearly at odds. I do admit I’m exhausted of the stories of later days Dick and Bruce falling out, but I’m eager to see how this story sets the tone for their partnership.

Dick Grayson is struggling to adjust to his new life as Bruce Wayne’s ward, with both Bruce’s rules and Batman’s training making his life difficult. But Dick is happy to remind Bruce that turnabout is fair play. Gotham’s newest crime boss, the General, continues to vie with Two-Face for control — but could an alliance benefit both of them and spell trouble for Batman and Robin?

The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1

by Alex Segura, Clan Tormey, Romulo Rajardo Jr., Willlie Schubert

The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1 cover art
Renee Montoya is back to watch those who watch us in The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1.

I’ve always had a soft spot for The Question, dating back to the legendary Dennis O’Neil & Denys Cowan run. Both Vic and Montoya were one of the best aspects of the later DC Universe just before New 52, and perhaps no one was done dirtier than them in the reboots that followed.

I’m glad we’ve got to see them both return, and I’m really excited for the prominent role Renee looks to be taking in DC’s All In initiative. The rejuvenated Question, complete with a new Wild West update and a task to protect the Watchtower, looks absolutely incredible.

Who watches the Watchtower? In the wake of Absolute Power, the Justice League Unlimited has created a haven for all heroes — but can they keep it secure? Enter Renee Montoya, reeling from an abrupt end to her time in Gotham and looking for a place to hang her hat. But the Trinity didn’t bring her up to the Watchtower to relax — there’s a dark threat bubbling underneath the surface, and only the Question and her ad hoc support team stand a chance of figuring out who the problem is before it’s too late.
