News is pouring in quickly now that the big DC Reboot has been announced, perhaps to soothe the blistering wound where all the fans have torn into DC for such a ballsy move. 10 titles were announced today at the source blog, and all 10 are a smattering of big stars and B-list heroes. Seeing a lot of these characters in their own titles is pretty exciting, but again….the costumes. Ugh. Covers provided by DC are at the bottom, here’s a quick run down of who’s who, and who’s in charge now.
[singlepic id=271 w=320 h=240 float=left]Aquaman
Writer Geoff Johns
Artist Ivan Reis
Covers Reis, Joe Prado
Aquaman finally gets his own title again, something he hasn’t had since 2003. Not much seems to have changed about the king of the seas, thankfully.
[singlepic id=281 w=320 h=240 float=left]Wonder Woman
Writer Brian Azzarello
Artist Cliff Chiang
Very excited to hear about Brian Azzarello taking over this one, and curious to see what he’s going to do with the character. The first issue of Azzarello’s Flashpoint mini-series, Batman: Knight of Vengeance was really good.
[singlepic id=280 w=320 h=240 float=left]The Flash
Writer/Artist Francis Manapul & Brian Buccellato
The Flash gets a new on-going, which isn’t all that surprising. Very excited to see Manapul’s staying on art chores, as I felt it was a nice fit for the series, and curious as to what kind of a Flash story he wants to tell for his writing debut.
[singlepic id=274 w=320 h=240 float=left]The Fury of Firestorm
Writer Gail Simone & Ethan Van Sciver
Artist Yildiray Cinar
Covers Ethan Van Sciver
Gail Simone on Firestome? Absolutely sold. Not a huge fan of the series retconning Jason and Rusch and Ronnie Raymond as high school students who are suddenly forced together by the Firestorm matrix, but we’ll see what happens.
[singlepic id=279 w=320 h=240 float=left] The Savage Hawkman
Writer Tony Daniel
Artist Philip Tan
Hawkman gets yet another reboot and revamp; can’t anyone just find a decent origin for this guy? New armor portrayed on the cover also looks like it took a lesson from Jim Lee’s “Less is not more” camp.
[singlepic id=275 w=320 h=240 float=left] Green Arrow
Writer JT Krul
Artist Dan Jurgens
Covers Brett Booth
Krul is still on GA? Pass. This is the writer who made Teen Titans horrible, wrote Rise and Fall for Green Arrow & Aresenal, and put Ollie in the woods to become Robin Hood. Let me know when this creative team changes; I’m not too high on JT Krul at the moment.
[singlepic id=277 w=320 h=240 float=left]Justice League International
Writer Dan Jurgens
Artist Aaron Lopresti
Between this book and the art on Green Arrow, Dan Jurgens is going to be a busy little bee. Curious how much of this book will be tied into the JLI series teased at the end of Generation Lost and how much will be retcon/reboot. This team consists of Booster Gold wearing a fucking horrible outfit (a trend I’ve noticed!), some incarnation of Batman, Rocket Red (wearing what actually looks to be a nicer, sleeker redesign of his armor), Fire, August General in Iron of the Grean Ten, Vixen, Donna Troy (wearing YET ANOTHER redesign for the character, but thankfully one that isn’t a super low plunging bathing suit), Ice and Guy Gardner, confirming there will be at least two Green Lanterns in the post-Flashpoint DCU.
[singlepic id=278 w=320 h=240 float=left]Mister Terrific
Writer Eric Wallace
Artist Roger Robinson
Cover J. G. Jones
Really excited to see the JSA’s premier tech guru get his own title. Mr. Terrific is a really well done character who seems to be universally respected by fans and creators alike. Kind of hate that they’ve ditched the jacket in favor of a sleeveless unitard, but the jacket may still show up in some capacity.
[singlepic id=272 w=320 h=240 float=left]Captain Atom
Writer JT Krul
Artist Freddie Williams II
Covers Stanley “Artfem” Lau
Holy crap, a new Captain Atom series, where the Captain is struggling to maintain his humanity! This sounds really–oh, JT Krul. Pass.
[singlepic id=273 w=320 h=240 float=left]DC Universe Presents
Writer Paul Jenkins
Artist Bernard Chang
Covers Ryan Sook
The final announcement and one of the best ones, in my opinion: DC Universe Presents, which will kick off with a multi-issue Deadman story. Really good idea, and the type of book DC could use. A rotating series focusing on characters who don’t normally populate the limelight could be a lot of fun.
With these announcements and Tuesday’s announcement of a Geoff Johns penned and Jim Lee Justice League of America series, I believe that puts us at 11 out of 52 titles revealed. We’ll update again as soon as more are revealed.
