Marvel announced just now that there will be a new Spider-Man book on the block come November: The Avenging Spider-Man, by Zeb Wells and Joe Madureira, will focus more on Spidey as a super hero, with writer Wells referring to it as “This is the big super action movie of Spider-Man every month, with Joe Madureira on art.” Amazing Spider-Man will continue to focus more on the dramatic aspects of the character’s life.
The book is Madureira’s first work since his 2008 stint on The Ultimates 3. He began at Marvel working on the Age of Apocalypse storyline. His first solo, Battle Chasers, was notable for existing at the launch of Cliffhanger Comics, a subsidiary of Wildstorm. Battle Chasers, much like it’s sister book Danger Girl, was known for very pretty art and obscenely long delays. In recent years, Madureira has worked in video game design, serving as the creative director on Darksiders. Well is an Emmy nominated writer, having previously worked on Robot Chicken, and wrote Venom: Dark Origin and Dark Reign: Elektra.
The title will be the second ongoing spin-off to be released since the infamous “Brand New Day” revamp. The previous series, Web of Spider-Man, detailed the origins of his supporting characters and ended at issue #12.
