Joe Quesada to announce new comic, era on ‘Colbert’

Yesterday, Marvel pulled one over on the fans with a surprise reveal on The View, announcing Thor would be replaced by a new, female character in upcoming stories.  Today they’ve just announced that Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada will be making a return appearance on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report to announce a new comic and era for a “classic” Marvel character.

Marvel’s official press release offers no further details aside from Quesada’s appearance on the show. Given Colbert’s association with the character, it’s likely to involve Captain America. Marvel confirmed on July 4th that there would be a new Captain America debuting soon, after Steve Rogers lost his Super Soldier serum (see our write up here).

Colbert’s no stranger to comics. He’s a fan of the medium in his own right, dropping references and even running for President of the Marvel Universe. In 2006, Quesada appeared on The Colbert Report to discuss the recently released ‘Death of Captain America’ event and presented Stephen with a Captain America shield which still hangs on the set to this date.

Quesada started at Marvel Comics in 1998, revamping popular characters who have fallen in to disarray with collaborator Jimmy Palmiotti and creating the ‘Marvel Knights’ line that brought new life to ailing properties such as Daredevil and The Inhumans. In 2000, Quesada was made the Editor in Chief at Marvel, a position which he held until being replaced by Axel Alonso in 2011, when Quesada become the Chief Creative Officer.

Marvel’s official press release follows.

Marvel is excited to announce that on Wednesday, July 16th, at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, Marvel’s Joe Quesada will be announcing an all-new comic book title and all-new era for one of Marvel’s most classic Super Heroes on the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central.

“The Colbert Report” airs Monday-Thursday at 11:30 p.m. and repeats at 1:30 a.m. the same night and at 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. the following day (all times ET/PT). Full episodes, as well as clips, are posted for viewing the following day at www.ColbertNation.com with URL and embed links.

The series’ Head Writer is Opus Moreschi and it is directed by Jim Hoskinson. David Bernath is the Executive in Charge of Production for Comedy Central.
